thierry.burckhart@global-hydro.euLocated in Bjerkreim municipality, the Ørsdalen hydropower plant is a modern high-head installation on the west coast of Norway. Commissioned in 2023, the project utilizes a gross head of 336 meters to ensure efficient and reliable renewable energy generation under challenging site conditions.
The plant is equipped with a vertical Pelton turbine featuring four nozzles and an installed capacity of 3 MW. With an annual production of approximately 14 GWh, it supplies clean energy equivalent to the consumption of around 700 households. As part of a revitalization project, Ørsdalen replaces the former Vassbø hydropower plant, originally commissioned in 1944, representing a significant upgrade in terms of efficiency, reliability, and technological standard.
Thanks to its robust design and optimized hydraulic performance, the solution ensures high efficiency and stable operation in a typical high-head application.
Global Hydro supplied the complete electromechanical equipment and supported the project from engineering through installation and commissioning. The successful project execution reflects a reliable partnership with the customer and contributes to a future-proof and sustainable hydropower solution.
