Located on the Salzach River in Austria, the Stegenwald hydropower plant represents a major milestone in modern run-of-river technology. The project is the world’s first installation of an innovative turbine concept that combines the advantages of a vertical Kaplan spiral turbine with those of a horizontal pit turbine, setting a new benchmark in economic efficiency.
With its compact design and optimized hydraulic performance, the solution enables high efficiency across a wide operating range while ensuring reliable operation under demanding site conditions.
Global Hydro delivered the complete electromechanical equipment and supported the project from engineering through installation and commissioning, contributing to a highly efficient and future-oriented hydropower solution.
