Continuous development through seamless collaboration between R&D, engineering, and production. Supply of core components – the heart and brain of a hydropower plant.
Austria
Nepal is a country blessed with an extraordinary abundance of rivers and elevation differences, offering enormous potential for hydropower. In recent years, the country has repositioned itself as a rising player in sustainable energy. Its landmark long-term power deal with India aims to export up to 10,000 megawatts of electricity over the next decade. The liberalized market attracts many players – from international system providers to low-cost suppliers.
But success in Nepal’s hydropower sector isn’t just about selling equipment. It takes local knowledge, technical excellence, and long-term commitment. That’s where Global Hydro stands out – not only as a technology provider, but as a reliable project partner who delivers complete solutions and stays involved for the full lifecycle of each plant.
When Global Hydro first entered the Nepalese market in 2013, the environment was challenging. Infrastructure was weak, logistics difficult, and most contracts were awarded to the lowest bidders. Projects were often built with limited coordination, quality assurance, or after-sales support.
Cheap was no longer enough. By 2019, however, the tide began to turn. Years of unsatisfactory experience with low-cost suppliers had led to frustration and investors began to look beyond price tags. What they needed was a partner who could ensure performance, manage complexity, and be there for the long term. That’s where Global Hydro stepped in again – not as a product seller, but as a full-scope, high-reliability Water-to-Wire electro-mechanical partner. Even during the global lockdowns of 2020, Global Hydro responded quickly and not only secured multiple projects but also executed some of them in short period of 15 - 18 months during 2020 - 2021.
Global Hydro’s ability to succeed in Nepal is built on a smart international setup:
Austria – Technology and Manufacturing Hub
At the headquarters in Austria, engineering, research & development, and manufacturing are united under one roof. This integrated setup enables the team to develop and test the latest technological solutions through model testing and close collaboration between R&D and production. Key components are manufactured directly at the headquarters, ensuring the highest quality and European standards.
India – Regional Fabrication and Installation Support
The Indian subsidiary is responsible for regional fabrication and provides expert support during installation. This ensures fast turnaround times and cost efficiency, while maintaining Global Hydro’s high standards across projects in the region.
Nepal – Local Coordination and Communication
Since 2022, the Kathmandu office ensures fast, efficient coordination and direct communication with clients and stakeholders. By managing local interfaces and supporting project execution on-site, the office helps retain value in the country and strengthens Nepal’s local economy and capabilities.
Chepe Khola
Chepe marked a milestone: Installation of our PeltonEVO turbine, developed in-house to combine compact design with high efficiency and simplified installation.
Madhya Solu
These two projects demonstrated Global Hydro’s fast-track capability.
Seti Nadi
Initially planned with vertical turbines, Global Hydro proposed a smarter, horizontal configuration – simpler, more compact, and easier to maintain. The client agreed and is now operating one of the region’s most reliable plants.
Khimti-2
Khimti-2 HEPP is set to become a benchmark for Small Hydro XL in Nepal, reaffirming Global Hydro’s ability to scale its technology while maintaining quality and reliability.
